Rising Suicide Rates Among Youth
A Call to Action
By Heather Jarrell
The statistics are alarming. Suicide rates among children aged 11 to 18 have seen a significant increase over the past few years. According to recent data, suicide is now the second leading cause of death for this age group. Between 2009 and 2019, suicide rates among adolescents aged 10-24 increased by nearly 60%.
These numbers are more than just statistics; they represent young lives lost, families shattered, and communities grieving. Several factors contribute to this disturbing trend, including:
- Increased pressure from academic and social environments
- Widespread use of social media and cyberbullying
- Mental health issues exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic
At Aurora Behavioral Health, we believe that awareness and intervention can make a critical difference. It’s essential for parents, educators, and community members to recognize the signs of distress and encourage young people to seek help.
Our Commitment: We provide comprehensive mental health services tailored to adolescents, offering a safe space for them to express their feelings and receive the support they need. Both our hospitals provide care for ages 12 and up.
If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Together, we can combat this crisis and support our youth towards a healthier future. Aurora Behavioral Health auroraarizona.com | 877-870-7012
