Flight, Fight or Face it?

As I grow older and closer to leaving the planet I realize more than ever, there is no beginning and there is no end. There are only the holy moments in the middle called now. Because these moments are so precious, it’s incredibly important to stop now and then, and ask yourself, What am I spending my focus and attention on, my precious energy, my money and my love on? And how do the things I am empowering feed my energy, serve my life, my character and those whom I love?

When you are young, life seems to drag and inside is this anxious waiting for what comes next. You want to feel it all, have it all, experience it all and be it all. That’s a natural part of maturing.

Then, there comes a point where you begin to see somethings not only don’t serve you but neither are they satisfying and you begin to be a bit more selective as you clean up the mess some of past choices created. Instead, of moaning about your situations or blaming others, you begin to accept things as they are. It is simply what it is and it’s not the end of the world.

Finding Yourself, Identifying YOUR Purpose

Hopefully, you do that without the toxic energy that comes from feeling shame and blame. The process and every mistake you make, is all part of finding yourself and identifying your true purpose. Most people won’t admit it but they go through the same struggle. As you mature, different questions rise to the surface of your awareness such as, who am I — and who do I really want to be? What important thing do I really want to do in the world. That is when the fun begins. So here are some tools to get you unstuck and on your way to that quantum leap into the enlightened place you need that provides maturity, spiritually, emotionally and intellectually.

Fear is not real unless you are really in danger such as standing on the tracks of an oncoming train. It’s simply rapidly moving energy and when you become paralyzed with fear, you need to ask yourself, “Is this a fact or is this a feeling?” If it is only a feeling, then take some breaths and blow it away. If it is a fact, ask yourself, “What steps do I need to take to get safe.”

If it is a feeling imagine it on a thermometer inside and ask how intense is this fear or feeling is. Does it go up to a nine or a five? Once you identify the strength of it then slowing take deep breaths and if it’s a nine bring it down to an eight-and-a half. Then take another breath and bring it down to a seven and so on. Slowly you will relax.

Here’s the Thing….

You do not want to get to the end of your life and look back only to see that you did not accomplish what you came here to do. Or, that you allowed yourself to be frozen or immobile in a feeling that wasn’t real.

In August 2017 Psychology Today explained it this way.” Fear is a neurophysiological response to a perceived threat. Fear activates our fight-or-flight response by stimulating the hypothalamus, which directs the sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal-cortical system to prepare our bodies for danger. This can happen suddenly with a surge of stress hormones into our bloodstream, or we can experience a slow drip of anxiety that creeps up on us as dread. This is how our body is designed to respond to fear. During an encounter with fear, blood is shunted from our limbs so it’s more available to our hearts. Our breathing and heart rates accelerate; we sweat or shiver; our stomach “drops” and our vision narrows as our bodies prepare to flee or freeze. As much as we might sometimes like to eradicate this disabling feeling from our lives, fear is part of our survival kit.”

You, your contributions to consciousness, your acts of compassion and kindness, in fact, every part of who you are, and what you bring to the universe to fill your assignment is another piece in the tapestry that makes the planet whole and NO ONE else can take your place. This planet is a school. Don’t let fear cause you to skip class. Embrace every lesson and in the end, when you are as old as I am, you will be able to turn around and look at your life with a satisfying smile of gratitude on your face.
