Sometimes staying in the present moment is a challenge — it sure is for me. It seems like our lives are moving at a super high speed, and keeping up often becomes a distraction.
This busyness can keep us from looking back and seeing where we were; where we hope to go, and what we wish to accomplish moving forward. When I do look in that mirror, I need to be careful not to get caught up in regret. It’s very easy to think of all the “woulda, coulda, and shoulda’s.” It takes constant practice to shift my thinking to “What can I learn from this?”— rather than dwelling on the past for too long.
When I get stuck in the mud of negative thinking, I remember my dear friend Dr. Dina Evan, who always reminded us in her columns, “Am I doing what I came here to do?”
Staring at the past and trying to rearrange the outcome won’t change it, that’s a fact. My focus needs to be on living the best life I can, one day and one step at a time, with integrity and humility. Today, I’ll slow down a bit, inhale the beauty of this gift called life and stay grateful.
As always, I’m deeply grateful to our contributors for bringing their voices to these pages. A warm welcome to Encore OS and Sanctuary Recovery Centers as our newest partners! Special thanks to Dr. Erica Sheade for her insightful piece on Play Therapy, and to everyone who made this issue possible.
